about

We found ourselves without a frontman after Shaun's abrupt resignation in the late summer of 2012. Through a fun chain of events, we were able to trick the talented Jon Reider into driving all the way to Cleveland (twice) to sing our songs for us. We also tricked him into adding guitars to Last Minutes. We also tricked Scott Schulman into crafting the album art for us.

released 01 May 2013
Paper Leviathan was recorded primarily in November 2012 at Bad Back Studios in Cleveland, Ohio. Vocals were captured over a few nights in December 2012 and January 2013. This recording was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Mr. Dave Johnson in just under thirty-five hours of studio time.

The drums on this recording were performed by Mr. Jason Craig. Mr. Kyle Childers was joined by Mr. Keith Luchka in the playing of electric guitars on this album. Mr. Jason Luchka performed the electric bass guitar, in addition to providing backing vocals, some additional electric guitar, and electronically synthesized tones by way of a Moog synthesizer. The honorable Jon Reider is responsible for all lead vocals and the lead electric guitar on the song, Last Minutes. All songs by tGDM, with lyrical input by Mr. Jon Reider. Mr. Scott Schulman (skaght.com) created the digital collage that makes up the cover of this EP, while Jason Luchka completed the layout.

The Gingerdead Men thank Jon Reider for making this EP a reality and Dave Johnson for making us sound awesome. We also thank Shaun Yanovich for four wonderful years at the helm, Ryan Boehm for helping us out of a jam, Scott for the artwork, and we thank you for listening and spreading the word.

about

The Gingerdead Men Akron, Ohio

The Gingerdead Men (tGDM) are a bad-ass, rock’n roll band. They shun trends and embrace complete creative freedom. They think rock’n roll should be loud, to the point, and capable of shaking your pants and bobbing your head. Their lyrics tell tall tales about the future, the past, monsters and more. Somehow, it works. Well.

tGDM believe that massive amplification is ALWAYS the answer. Rock on.

Track Name: Soothsayer
there's great big pile of rust sitting out on the lawn
something like a car something like a...
we spend our days and nights just wondering what...
what it, what, we could have been

do you yearn for the summer of seventy-six?
what century? what century? oh! ambiguity
if you could only be a little more precise...
damned memory, damn tragedy, oh! futility

there's great big pile of rust sitting out on the lawn
something like a car something like a...
we spend our days and nights just wondering what...
what it, what, we could have been

hopelessly straining our eyes on a crystal ball
what do we see? what do we see? oh! a mystery
if only there was a little bit more to go on
damned apathy, damn history, to clarity...

to clarity!

we'll summon everyone that claims a third eye
psychics, soothsayers, and cargo-cultists alike

watch the skies for a clear sign from above
what validity? what validity? oh! faithfully
to someday recall what we've chosen to forget
damned memory, damn apathy oh! misery
Track Name: Bala
can you hear the echoes in the shadows?
they're suggesting such terrible things
hijacking all sense of right and wrong,
and the ecstasy of terror it brings
they got it figured out, they got it all set
waiting downtown under the minarets
they have an alibi, they have a getaway,
they're lighting the fuse like a cigarette

on a list of who is who
they have always been whoever
they have been roaming
this earth forever

did you see the lights over the city?
kinda strange how they hovered all night
i heard it drove quite a few insane,
clawed out their eyes to escape the fright
they got a master plan, they got a secret base
they got a thing for eviscerating wildlife
they have a tractor beam, they have a stealth device,
they got a billion acres to probe tonight

on a list of who is who
they have always been whoever
they' have been roaming
this earth forever

everything that goes bump in the night is here to specifically haunt you
might as well curl up and die throw in the towel and go run and hide

did you feel the hairs on your neck rise?
something subtle creeping up from below
shapes stirring out in the cemetary,
the whole family is crawling on home
they got an appetite, they got relentless drive,
they all gather on the porch with blank eyes
they have the bloodlust, they have time to spare
they are here to feed and no compromise

everything that goes bump in the night is here to specifically haunt you
might as well curl up and die throw in the towel and go run and hide
Track Name: Negatron
here we are as the scene unfolds,
a dark-lit corner of a watering hole
it doesn't matter as to who shoots first,
everybody knows history can be reversed.
you want the good word? you want a high five?
the best i can say, you're still alive
if you are desperate for a bit of good news,
let me say that you do not want the truth

mother never said
keep your mouth shut if ain't nice
so i've never been accused
of being polite

as you ride through the valley of death,
you can always lose more than your breath
that valley is a desolate waste,
with fierce beasts patrolling the place
here's the catch you expected to hear,
there's plenty more frightening than the specter of fear
if you're looking for a pick-me-up,
you better keep walking 'cause that's never gonna come

mother never said
keep your mouth shut if ain't nice
so i've never been accused
of being polite

sshhh listen! no news is good news
sshhh listen! there's a lot of news tonight

i'm in possession of a mountain of information
it's about time you started paying a little attention
it's a great big world, all of it unfair
and it will keep on spinning with or without you here
it's a great big world, all of it unfair
and it will chew you up and spit you out without a care!

here's the catch you expected to hear,
there's plenty more frightening than the specter of fear
if you're looking for a pick-me-up,
you better keep walking 'cause that's never gonna come
Track Name: Ninety and Nine Cats
well hello there
i didn't see you
step on up and i will tell you a tale
that you won't believe
there was this girl
back when i a boy
well not a child but much younger, younger
than i am at this time
where was i?
...oh yeah, there was a girl
she managed to do something so wrong
that she was imprisoned for life

i've said it before, and you know i'll say it again
there ain't no good can come from, a woman scorned

i should mention
i'm the one who turned her in
being falsely led to believe that the
truth could set me free
she got jacked
as one would expect
she cursed my name and said
something about a plague of cats
that's misleading
let me say it again
she begged satan to send a bunch of cats to
tear me apart

i've said it before, and i'll say it again
ain't no good can come from, a woman scorned

all these years
I've been on edge
looking over my back
in anticipation
fearing my furry demise
now if there's a lesson
to be learned
i guess it would have to be to
mind your own business
lest...
trouble

it might be
some sort of trick of mind
but i swear on more than one occasion
i saw one creeping behind

damn this curse
damn these cats
damn that girl
damn!
Track Name: Colossus
long, slow road
paved in bone
talking head, turn off the sound
tinitus ring, help us to drown

long, slow road
head hung low
giant tracks, fifty feet wide
brain is dull yet we keep it in stride

all eyes are fixed upon the horizon
there's something there that everyone needs
it's standing up as some sort of beacon
as we fall down to our knees

feed the need, feed the need

is it strange that we are devoted

feed the need, the need is greed

to things that can't return our love (love love)?

behold colossus - towering above all
i am colossus - watch as i fall

there's a crowd gathering in its footprint
seem that things have gone awry
hooks and chains
saws and bombs, oh my!

it's coming down like a freight train
it's coming down like a hurricane
it's gonna lead us to the next age, to our doom

if you need to know a reason
for why we're all here
i'd like to think it's based on love
but truth is something we should fear

so here it is for both the chumps and robber-barons
the incestuous inertia of countless generations
there's no such thing as infinite ascension
all good things come but end in obliteration

colossus rises and colossus falls
and there's a monument of rust to remember it all
the beacon, the martyr, the boom, and the slaughter
destined arrival of hell or high water
Track Name: P-80
if i stop, the whole world stops
if i wait, the whole world dies

shut my eyes and take me away
my throat is cracked from having nothing to say
could be an omen, might be nothing at all
raising our voices in a beckoning call

tell me how this
shooting star is
something more than
it appears
tell me how this
shooting star is
something we can't
sink our faith in

now it is streaking across the sky
shedding it's outer skin as it flies
strange reports all over the globe
coincidence or else something foreshadowed

tell me how this
shooting star is
something more than
it appears
tell me how this
shooting star is
something we can't
sink our faith in

pray we don't figure it out
pray we don't realize
the end is near
we just watched it roll on in

let's be frank
it's quite a scene
see it once
then it’s gone

breaking up
bleeding out all sorts of disease
raining down
all manner of curses
toxic gas
burning out eyes and lungs
oh twinkle twinkle
little star!

pray we don't figure it out
pray we don't realize
the end is near
the end is near

who would have guessed
that the angel of death
would come like this?
would come like this
who would have guessed
this is how it ends?
we made the wrong wish
by wishing
